Squidoo promotes your lens for you, on Twitter!
The time has come!
Your Squidoo account is getting more integrated with other social networking sites!
Now, on your profile is a space to enter your Twitter.com username and password. And you save it in Squidoo just like you save your name and bio. Then, the next time you publish a lens you will see a little link in the green flashing box that pops up (the one that tells you that your lens has been published), and if you click the linkĀ Squidoo will automatically post an update about your lens for you onyour Twitter profile!
This is good, but could turn bad if you OVER-use it.
Being a user is different to being an abuser.
I would like it if there was more of this kind of cross-promotionĀ between Squidoo and other social networking sites. Isn’t it about time Squidoo made an Official Squidoo Facebook App? Why not, Squidoo? Hire someone full time to do all this stuff. We dare you!
So how do you set your Twitter thingy up?
Step 1. Go to your Profile here: http://www.squidoo.com/member/profile
Step 2. Scroll to the bottom and look for ‘Social Application Settings’.
Step 3. Fill in your Twitter info.
Step 4. You’re good to go! Now just publish your latest lens, or update an older one, and look for the link in the normal flashing green box at the top of the page.
Do you think this kind of thing is good for Squidoo? It should bring in more visitors as your twitter friends check out the links, but do you think it could be harmful at all?

Sound like good news and bad news to me. The good news is that it will help get the information out about our lenses and help increase traffic, thus page rank, etc.
The bad news is I now have to join Twitter — another thing to add to my top 1000 things to do. I’m sure it’s not fast and easy but so are most of the items on my top 1000 To Do List. My list is elastic, my time is not! ;-D
Keep up the good work Lewis!
Bear hugs, Frankster

RETRACTION: I meant, I’m sure it IS fast and easy. I don’t know how the “NOT” got in there! Freudian slip I think.

@Frankie – Twitter is VERY fast to register with. And you don’t really need to do anything other than get your username and password and set your bio and pic before you start using Squidoo’s new twitter thing. So you could maybe move it up your list a teeny bit. Maybe to just above ’sleeping’
@Tiffany – I do the buildmylens.com one using the wordpress plugin called TwitterTools. It automatically tweets about your latest blog posts. So when I blog about the lenses (at the buildmylens blog), they send to twitter automatically! Also, I quite like the title ‘Oh Mighty Squid Genius’…

I think Twitter is an awesome tool. I like the Squidoo Twitter module. However, I see a problem. As I have just one Twitter account and many lenses. Not every tweet I send is going to be appropriate for every lens. Yet, every tweet I send is going to show up in every lens with a Twiiter module. How do you solve this problem? Do you set up many Twitter accounts and have just one topic per discussion per account?

Hiya Lewis… or perhaps we should be calling you “oh Mighty Squid Genius’ from now on? =)
Works for me!
I just tried to new Twitter promotion thingy with one of my lenses…
WAY COOL!
Naturally, anything that gets abused is gonna cause problems for the site as a whole. Hopefully, that won’t happen. (crossing fingers)
Thanks for the heads up on this new feature!

I think it’s cool that they’ve done this, but I’m worried that it turns Twitter into a one-way dump of link. People will be posting tweets without reading anyone elses. It’s not social if everyone does this.
Comment by Katinka Spirituality on 9 June 2008:
I tend to ‘publish’ lenses several times in one editing session – so I could easily see this getting out of control for me. I think I’d better stick to manually promoting my stuff.

Hi Lewis,
I think the Twitter connection was a long time coming. Twitter and Squidoo just go hand in hand. Thanks for yet another important and useful post

Oh Mighty Squid Genius, alas, sleeping is not on my list! LOL Seriously, I’m going to check Twitter out. Thanks and bear hugs, Frankie

This is so cool – I just love those “set and forget” features.
Like http://twitterfeed.com/ for blogs – no need for a wp plugin.
I was about to write about this on my squidoo blog, when I realised you did the same, so I just took your post and copied to my blog. Hope its OK?
Just kidding, just kidding – gave you a backlink

I had avoided doing the Twitter thing, just like I never did facebook.
You convinced me. I’ve set up an account (easy), and I’m making sure only an occasional tweet is the Squidoo auto tweet. The rest of the time you’ll have to put up with hearing about cool stuff that’s happening.
