Start a Lensography

Do you have more than 3 lenses?

Make a lensography!

A lensography is a lens that has only 1 purpose: to show off your other lenses!

There are lots of lensographies on Squidoo, each one doing a good job of showcasing either all of someone’s lenses, or just their best.

Mine is here: www.squidoo.com/lewisography

I have just featured some of my favourite lenses, and I’ve written short descriptions of the lenses I’ve featured and reasons why I have listed them there.  A lensography would be a great forum signature too.

You could use Link Plexo modules (so people can vote) if you have lots of lenses, and break them up by category (like Spuds has done), or you could just use normal HTML links instead of a plexo (like Jack has done), you could use the Featured Lens module and order your lenses by category (like Crystal has done), or you can just feature your favourite lenses in no particular order (like I have done).

How you order yours is completely up to you and will probably depend on how many lenses you have and how many categories they spread over.

Take a look at the few linked to above and get on making yours!  An important thing to remember is to write acouple of lines about why you are interested in the topic of each lens or category of lenses you’re listing. Frame them for people so they will want to read the lenses.

If you click this link to make your lens it will automatically be added to Crystal Booth’s Lensography Group, which is good for your lens.

  1. There’s my Lensography too - I think I may have been the first person to use this term. I find the Feature Module the best for the job.

  2. How did you make that tiny smiley on the top - left hand side?

  3. Oh yes fluff, we can’t forget the guy who coined the term ‘lensography’!

  4. Susanne, it is put there automatically! Very odd, I know. I think it fits nicely though :)

  5. I created my lensography! Thanks for the tips. :)

  6. Thanks so much for the feature, Lewis. I welcome all lensographys to my group. : )

  7. It would be wise to also point out that I get a lot of visitors to my lensography. They are good for backlinks too.

Another option for a lensography is to make a group just for your lenses. Let no other lenses join and feature all your lenses. The only problem with this is you can’t add it to any groups, or see visitor stats for it. Or use the wide range of modules for lenses that aren’t allowed in groups.

  8. Hey Lewis, I have made both … http://www.squidoo.com/livingwater/ and http://www.squidoo.com/groups/livingwater :)

  9. WP, now that you have both, you’ll have to let us know which you think is better.

  10. thefluffanutta, I think a ‘lens lensography’ is better due to the disadvantages of a ‘group lensography’ that Lewis mentioned above. The advantage of having both is that you can draw additional traffic from two sources, rather than one.

  11. I Love a challenge so it’s nothing left to do but get started. In the manetine Happy Holidays to all!!
