Join StumbleUpon and submit your lens
StumbleUpon is a website with a difference. It is a Social Bookmarking site like most others, but has some very cool features that the others are lacking.
StumbleUpon is a MASSIVE catalogue of the best websites online, all organized in over 500 categories. The users add cool sites to the rotation database.
To submit your lens you need to be a member, and follow their instructions for setting things up. Then go to your lens and click the stumbleupon thumbs up in your toolbar. You will get a pop-up asking you to categorize and tag the link you are submitting.
StumbleUpon allows you to ’stumble’ (surf) through random websites/pages/videos/images in your chosen category. Websites and links that other people have submitted.
It is a GREAT way to discover new sites related to your hobbies and interests, and also a great way to get a whole heap of visitors to your lenses, because your link will also be added to the rotation for your category.
But be warned: it is very addictive when you start surfing the site!
A few hours after I launched this blog a reader submitted it, and within just a few hours the blog stats showed 115 new visitors all from StumbleUpon!
StumbleUpon is a good way to quickly launch your lens to the right audience on the very first day.

I use stumble upon a lot. From your experience, does it feel like spam if we keep submitting own material?
Comment by mrlewissmile on 2 July 2007:
Hi KC,
I guess it depends on whether you feel the people in whatever category you choose to submit your link to will like to see it. If it’s right for the audience you choose, then I don’t think it’s spamming at all! Submitting something that is not right for the category you choose just for the sake of submitting it will probably feel a bit spammy. I only submit something I think the SU audience in that category will appreciate.
Thanks for pointing that out!
I appreciate you stopping by, KC

I got 187 visitors in an hour! That’s so cool!

WOOHOO!
Stephen, that’s amazing!

Stumbleupon won’t let me submit my Squidoo lenses any more, it still lets me submit other sites, but none of my own lenses(it used to and I had only submitted a few). Others were posting the same problem at Squid U, so stumble your own material sparingly.
Stumble is a great boost for lens traffic.

There is a secret formula that will not allow you to post so many items from the same domain. No one knows if it’s a percentage or exact amount. If anyone figures it out SU will just change it.

I just discovered you yesterday and have already learned so-o-o much. Thanks , Lewis.

Linette, I imagine B_Carter is right. She sounds clever.
June, that is super kind

This is a great blog, Lewis.
I am new to Squidoo, and thank god I found you, you’ve been a great help.
Cheers,
John.

John, hopefully EVERYONE will find me soon

Absolutely Lewis! Great site for immediate exposure. I’ve seen 1900 visits from this StumbleUpon in a month once.
When your Stumbl’n make sure to be giving thumbs up-thumbs down and reviews. This will teach the machine what you like and don’t like. The more you stumble the more relevant content you like/need comes up.
Oh yea, get some great friends/admires as well if your content is good. This does wonders for your back links

I was able to stumble my first lens & not the second one, so I don’t know if it’s an X per week thing or what. I would imagine the lifetime limit ought to be greater than 1.
I’ll have to remember to stumble more–I do run across a lot of cool stuff as I browse around.

Thanks for the StumbleUpon info! Until now I was stumbling to figure out how to submit my lens.
